The Lord is Risen

Baptismal Set with shells & portrayal of Baptism of Christ in the Jordan
Post Easter, many priests make themselves scarce.  I have the good fortune of having family in Europe, so I'm taking a week in Paris.  We are planning to go and listen to some jazz, but so far we have just been unwinding together.  I had the good fortune to go with my sister, Rita, today to the Louvre, so vast it is best enjoyed in doses.  I'm sure I will be back several more times before I can say that I have really seen it.

Chandelier in Napoleon III Apartments
It was a little bit instructive, however, to see the waves of people going through the museum.  To actually take in art takes attention and time.  Instead of looking at a lot, it seems to me better to look at a little with attention.  We enjoyed the apartment of Napoleon III, as well as some Renaissance art.  The circus around the Mona Lisa made it almost impossible to credibly view the painting.

Foie Gras & Sweet wine
Afterwards we stopped for coffee and macaroons and then drove our way up the Champs Elysees avoiding the traffic circle around the Arc de Triomphe by passing under it.  Tonight art for the taste buds:  foie gras, sweet wine and then steak.  Mmm.  The conversation, the nibbling at the food and sipping of the wine disposes one to beauty and goodness.  To be overly attached to these aids would dull their effect, but to appreciate and relish sacred time in such a way is a true gift!
