A New Universe of Music - Revelations in the Pastoral Life

In the last few months I have begun to discover the depth of musical selection offered by Spotify and have been using it to target purchases of CD's.  With the closing of my favourite CD shop, the Grigorian in Yorkville (they still have an online presence), I have begun to look further afield.

This week I purchased a dedicated streaming device that supports Spotify but also a large number of other services particularly Tidal which has a very broad and good quality catalogue.  Like all things, the future seems to be subscription.

To my surprise, I have discovered a new pastoral application of this musical love.  I've had a few interviews with couples since getting the new gear and it has been both fun and revealing to ask them what there favourite song is and then play it.

I've always felt the spiritual imagination is the doorway into the soul and it is in some ways hard to get hold of.  What surprised me is how this little exercise was an immediate ice breaker and relaxer and how it lent itself to discussions at a much deeper level very quickly.

Christ went into the places people were and encountered them there.  In modern life, music may well be a good place to find people.  It is a window on our interior lives and can be built upon beautifully.

I will keep you updated about what I learn as I carry this little approach forward!
